300mm Fabs Specify RJ-11 Optical Transceiver for E84 Communications
GCI's RJ-11 Optical Transceiver gains in popularity as two more North American 300mm fabs require the use of the RJ-11 transceiver for E84 communications. The AHMS vendors and fabrication facilities cite ease of installation, reductions in installation cost, reliability, and the ability to log and review the last 50 handoffs as reasons for the change. The RJ-11 Optical Transceiver fully complies with the SEMI E84 Standard and is a 100% compatible alternative for the parallel transceivers (GCI or Hokuyo) for passive side communications.
The RJ-11 transceiver uses standard 4-wire phone cord terminated with RJ-11 connectors, in place of the cumbersome 2 and 5 meter fixed-length parallel cables found on standard transceivers. Cables are custom fit to specific lengths for each process tool, using a single cut and crimp industry-standard tool. This process eliminates the need for multiple-crimp extensions made with parallel cable.
The GCI RJ-11 Transceiver provides E84 data logging and diagnostic software to locate handoff failures. RJ-11 transceivers log the active and passive communications signals for the last 50 handoffs to non-volatile memory. Using GCI's E84 Analysis Application package, this communication data log can be uploaded and analyzed by field maintenance technicians in a matter of minutes using a PC or GCI E84 Handheld Tester.

USB Interface for E84 Emulator
GCI has introduced a USB interface option for the popular E84 Emulator.
The GCI E84 Emulator is widely used in the Semiconductor industry to design, implement, test, verify, and qualify Semi Standard E84 by Fabs, OEM and AMHS manufactures. The option has been driven by customer demand, due to the design change in newer models of laptop computers moving away from parallel interfaces to USB.
Current customers may upgrade their units to USB. The USB option will be available on new Emulator units beginning September 2004.

North American Fab Installs RJ-11 Transceivers
A large North American 300mm production facility has installed GCI's RJ-11 E84 Optical Transceiver. This expansion project uses RJ-11 E84 Optical Transceivers on process tools for the passive-side (loadport) communication of the E84 handoff.
GCI developed the RJ-11 E84 Optical Transceiver to make installation easier and improve reliability in scenarios that require variable length cable and runs greater than 5m.
The RJ-11 E84 Optical Transceiver uses industry-standard 4-wire cord terminated with RJ-11 connectors to replace the cumbersome 2m or 5m fixed-length cable available on standard transceivers. GCI's RJ-11 Optical Transceiver is fully Semi Standard E84 compliant and is compatible with parallel GCI and Hokuyo optical transceivers. It also provides additional features including E84 data logging and diagnostic software for timing analysis to locate handoff failures.
